Designing Keyboard Layouts

This guide was written by Matt Gemmell. I’m a novelist from Edinburgh, and I have quite a few mechanical keyboards. I spend a lot of time thinking about how to use them productively — to the detriment of actual productivity — and this micro-site is one of the results.

The aim is to illustrate how to think about some of the factors involved in creating custom layouts for your own keyboards, and to share some of my own preferences and opinions. You may very well have different views, and that’s fine.

If you’d like to send me a message, my contact details are here. You can also have a look at the books I’ve written, or buy me a coffee.
